The Book of 1 Samuel is a story of riveting miracles. It starts with Samuel’s praying mother, Hannah. Samuel was a miracle. The Word of God honors his mother for her commitment and devotion, and Samuel for his response to God.
The book also records great highs and lows of God’s people. There’s the miraculous story of the boy David’s encounter with the giant Goliath; the wonderful account of one of history’s most famous and celebrated friendships between Jonathan and David; the story of Abigail, a woman of intelligence, beauty, and discernment; and the devastating account of the first of Israel’s kings, Saul, who wreaked havoc by failing to follow God.
In 1 Samuel we see the highs of obedience and the lows of disobedience.
From the Women of Faith Devotional Bible. Over the last few weeks we’ve encountered Deborah (in the book of Judges), Ruth (in the book of Ruth), and now Hannah and Abigail in the First Book of Samuel. Which of these Old Testament women are you most like? Which would you LIKE to be most like? Why?
