Judges: A Surprising Choice

When the people of God get in trouble, you can be sure help is on the way.  In the Book of Judges, we see how God puts people in positions of authority to calm the chaos.  My favorite person He chose for this task is the surprising (especially for its time in history) choice of Deborah – a woman whom God raised up to be a superb leader.  As one who was responsible and respected, she led her people, and, at the end of her reign, the Scripture says, “So the land had rest for forty years.”  Deborah led her people into that rest by trusting God.  She’s a wonderful model for us even today.

From the Women of Faith Devotional Bible, where you’ll find many wonderful (and some not-so-wonderful) models for us in the New King James Version Old and New Testaments.

I have been saving the brief notes you are making as an Introduction to the Bible. I have Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus but today I received Judges. If you have already done Numbers, Deutronomy, and Joshua, I must have missed them. Is there any way I can access those missing issues of Women of Faith Daily?

    Thank you.

Deborah the Judge is a perfect character for me to detail in my current writing. She epidomizes the strength of character that inhabits so many women. However, her willingness to obey and follow through is what actually makes her great!!

Thanks for this introduction to Judges. You’ve inspired me to read the entire book, and use Deborah to exemplify the power of sisterhood.

    Hi Joan,

You can find the missing books by searching for them–there’s a white search box at the top right of the page. Or you can scroll down through the older blog posts. Look for a new book of the Bible intro every Monday…or if you can’t wait, they can all be found in the Women of Faith Devotional Bible. Glad you’re enjoying them!
