Many women feel like a failure as a woman. I know that oftentimes I do. A failure as a human being, really. It has affected just about everything I have done and everything I have been kept from doing. But I am not a failure as a human being or as a woman. In some core place deep within, I know this.
I fail, yes. But I am not a failure.
I disappoint. But I am not a disappointment.
Yet when I find myself again in this place—losing the battle for my beauty, my body, my heart—I can sure feel like a failure in every way. And isn’t that true for every woman? Don’t we all have secret places where we are not living in the victory we long for, places that color how we see ourselves? Doesn’t it go on to become a barrier between us and the people in our lives? A wall separating us from the love of God?
Or is it just me?
I didn’t think so.

A Note from Stasi Eldredge, Author of Becoming Myself
Dear Women of Faith,
Women who have read Captivating often ask me, “What’s next?” The answer to that question is found in the new book I’ve just written, Becoming Myself: Embracing God’s Dream of You.
Becoming Myself is a hope-filled book for any woman who wonders if her life will ever change
if she will ever change. It was birthed out of my own journey of heartache and triumph and my prayer is that God uses it to bring hope, healing and life to many. Thankfully, God’s desire is to restore us — to help us become the real us. It’s a beautiful paradox: the more of God’s we become, the more ourselves we become — the “self” he had in mind when he thought of us before the creation of the world!
We are all on the journey of becoming our true selves. And though each of our journeys is as unique as our fingerprints, we all have them so though different; there is much that we share. I have learned so much from women who have gone before me; women I have never met and women I live closely to. I’ve learned from their journeys, their insights, their struggles, their victories and their shared experiences. It is my hope that what I offer from my own journey will help to shed light on yours.
In Becoming Myself, you’ll discover how to look back with mercy, better understand the landscape of your life, and move from fear to desire. I also share the journey of becoming a woman of faith, becoming a woman of worship . . . and becoming your true name.
So I invite you to come join me on the next stage of your journey with God by reading Becoming Myself and embracing God’s dream of you.
