There’s nothing quite so inviting in life as having someone come alongside you when you have a huge responsibility. Most of us appreciate the counsel of someone older, wiser, more experienced.
The best ones are those who have walked this path before and know what to expect and how to help. They don’t “lord” it over you, but stay close by and provide support, encouragement, and valuable insight. We call them mentors, models, or friends.
Timothy had such a gift in the apostle Paul. In this first letter, Paul encourages Timothy in his ministry and gives him instruction. What Timothy learned from this dear man, we learn also.
