Charoset
(also known as Haroset and Haroseth)
INGREDIENTS:
3-4 small or 2 large apples, peeled, cored and chopped
1 cup walnuts
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 1/2 teaspoons honey
1/3 cup sweet wine or fruit juice (white grape or apple)
DIRECTIONS:
Stir walnuts in heavy small skillet over medium heat until lightly browned and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Cool and chop nuts. Place the apples and walnuts into a large bowl. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar; sprinkle over the apples. Stir in the honey and sweet wine or fruit juice. Serve immediately, or refrigerate until serving.
Traditionally served on matzoh with horseradish at the Passover Seder dinner.
