As we leave the time of summer vacations and fun in the sun, it might be tempting to feel a little let-down anticipating the daily grind, the everyday, the routine.
But what's so bad about that?
Granted, there's a fine line between a routine and a rut. But doing the same thing over and over, day in and day out can be downright comforting. We have the best of all possible examples for repeating ourselves: God Himself. Our 2009 theme verse reminds us that "The Lord's love never ends; His mercies never stop. They are new every morning." (Lamentations 3:22-23) Every morning. Aren't you glad He doesn't take a day off?
Besides, if you think each day is just like the other, you might not be looking closely enough. Try asking God to sharpen your vision so you can see the small miracles and ordinary joys of ordinary days. Call it contentment. And don't be surprised if your days turn out to be not so ordinary after all.

When my boys were young, I loved to buy them Garanimals! These shirts and pants could be coordinated by matching the animal on one piece of clothing to the same animal on another. I could always count on the colors being compatible and the boys looking as if their mother were very successful at dressing her little gentlemen. With three boys close in age, that can be a feat! Whenever my sons wore their Garanimals outfits, I loved the fact that they were coordinated and even seemed to act as if they thought they looked good! Read more here.

Did you make it home from summer vacation with all your luggage? If not, it might be in Scottsboro, Alabama. When an airline can't trace a bag's owner or if luggage goes unclaimed for at least three months, it winds up in the Land of Lost Luggage―officially known as The Unclaimed Baggage Center.
This 40,000 sq. ft. store covers more than a city block and operates its own laundry and dry cleaners—a fact you'll appreciate when browsing through the clothing. Every day the staff adds 7,000 fresh items to the sales floor (after sorting, laundering, and pricing). They also offer unclaimed cargo, generally stuff that got lost on its way from the manufacturer to distributor. More than 500,000 people a year visit the store to hunt for treasure. (Find out more at unclaimedbaggage.com.)

No doubt you've heard about breakfast and its effect on concentration, problem-solving skills and endurance. If your family actually sits down to breakfast, it can be a time to connect with each other before flying out to door to all your different activities. But it's one thing to talk about the importance of breakfast and another to actually squeeze it in to those action-packed mornings. Fortunately, many breakfast dishes can be prepared the night before. Take our delicious recipe for Italian Sausage Strata, for instance. (Doesn't "strata" sound more appetizing than "casserole"?) All you have to do in the AM is pop it into the oven. See recipe here.
