In case no one else said this to you let me say it from the bottom of my heart, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!
I used to dread Valentines Day when I was a young girl. Unlike the sweet tradition that I have watched as Christian went through elementary school, where each child gives everyone else in the class a little card and candy, in my school only the ‘cute’ girls received cards. I would sit at my desk with my heart pounding as boys streamed past heading for Laura’s desk. By the time the first lesson began, she had a pile of cards the size of Mount Kilimanjaro! In my heart I knew that I wasn’t one of the ‘cute’ girls but it was heartbreaking to see such visible proof.
Now you may be a ‘Laura’ as you read this e-mail and if you are I celebrate with you! You might however identify more with the awkward Scottish girl whose bangs were too short and whose skin was more like an unpaved road than a ream of silk. Either way, I have some great news for every one of us―in God’s eyes we are beautiful and loved with an everlasting love.
Now you may be tempted to say, “Oh, not that ‘God thinks I’m beautiful thing’ again.” Well, yes, kind of―but it is really true. Human love and romance are wonderful things, but they don’t hold a candle to the depth of the passion that our Father has for us.
“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” Jeremiah 31:3
“Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone—as though we had never been here. But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him.” Psalm 103:17
So enjoy the candy if it comes―if not, buy some for yourself and a couple of your best friends. Make sure you have flowers even if it’s just one lovely rose and each time you look at it, remember where it came from. It came from your Father who is very much in love with you.
