“First seek the counsel of the Lord.”
1 Kings 22:5
It just can’t be.… After all, God is God. He has the resources of the entire universe at His disposal. He has a countless array of angelic beings who exist only to do His bidding, only to accomplish His purposes and minister to His people. Over and over the Bible refers to God as a King, so surely, this King doesn’t work … does He?
The unequivocal answer is found in Genesis 2:2 … “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.” When God created the trees, the waters, the animals, and ultimately people, He called it work, and He also called it “good.”
Being made in His image, we too have been designed to work … to do meaningful work … to find employment that utilizes our natural talents and spiritual gifts … work that glorifies God, blesses others, and brings personal satisfaction and fulfillment.
Consider the extraordinary example of Jesus.…
“I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.”
“Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?”
