EVANGELISM

Evangelism is the act of sharing the gospel (the "good news") of Jesus Christ with others, with the goal of leading them to faith in Him. It comes from the Greek word "euangelion", which means "good news" or "gospel."

Biblical Basis for Evangelism

Evangelism is a central part of Christianity, as Jesus commanded His followers to spread the gospel:

  • The Great Commission"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)
  • Acts 1:8"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Ways Evangelism Can Happen

  1. Personal Witnessing – Sharing one’s testimony or faith with friends, family, or strangers.
  2. Preaching & Teaching – Communicating the gospel in church, online, or in public spaces.
  3. Missions & Outreach – Going to different places (locally or globally) to share the gospel.
  4. Lifestyle Evangelism – Living in a way that reflects Christ’s love, drawing people to Him.
  5. Social Media & Digital Evangelism – Using technology to spread the gospel worldwide.

The Heart of Evangelism

True evangelism isn’t about forcing beliefs on others—it’s about lovingly sharing the hope, grace, and truth of Jesus so people can come to know Him personally. The Holy Spirit is the one who ultimately moves hearts, but believers are called to be messengers of His love.

God's Heart on Evangelism

God’s heart on evangelism is rooted in His deep love for all people and His desire for everyone to be saved. Evangelism is not just a task—it reflects God's character, compassion, and mission to bring humanity back into relationship with Him.

God's Desire for All to Be Saved

  • 2 Peter 3:9"The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
  • 1 Timothy 2:3-4"This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."

God’s heart beats for the lost, and He longs for everyone to experience salvation through Jesus Christ.

Jesus Came to Seek and Save the Lost

  • Luke 19:10"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."
  • John 3:16"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Jesus Himself was the ultimate evangelist, living out God’s mission by preaching, healing, and calling people to repentance.

Evangelism is God's Plan to Reach the World

  • Romans 10:14-15"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?"

God chooses to use His people as His messengers—He invites us to be co-laborers in His mission of salvation.

The Holy Spirit Empowers Evangelism

  • Acts 1:8"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Evangelism is not about human ability—it’s about the Holy Spirit working through us to bring people to Christ.

Evangelism Brings Joy to God's Heart

  • Luke 15:7"I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."

Every time someone turns to God, heaven rejoices—evangelism is not just about numbers; it's about God’s joy over every soul saved.

God’s Heart: Love, Compassion, and Mission

God’s heart for evangelism is a heart of love. It’s not about pressure, guilt, or duty—it’s about sharing the life-changing love of Jesus with a world that desperately needs Him.

Would you like to dive deeper into how you can share God’s heart for evangelism in your own life?

What is The Gospel?

The Gospel is the "good news" of Jesus Christ—His life, death, and resurrection that brings salvation to all who believe in Him. It is the core message of Christianity and reveals God’s love, grace, and plan for redeeming humanity.

The Gospel in Four Key Points

  1. God’s Design – We Were Created for Relationship with Him

    • Genesis 1:27"So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them."
    • God made us for a loving relationship with Him, to live in His perfect design.
  2. Sin Broke Our Relationship with God

    • Romans 3:23"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
    • Romans 6:23"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
    • Sin separates us from God and leads to spiritual death, meaning we cannot save ourselves.
  3. Jesus Christ – The Only Way to Salvation

    • John 3:16"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
    • Romans 5:8"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
    • Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life and died on the cross to pay for our sins. His resurrection proved His victory over sin and death.
  4. Our Response – Repent and Believe

    • Romans 10:9"If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
    • Ephesians 2:8-9"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."
    • We must repent (turn from sin), believe in Jesus, and follow Him to receive the free gift of salvation.

The Result of the Gospel

When we accept Jesus, we receive:
Forgiveness of Sins (1 John 1:9)
Eternal Life (John 10:28)
The Holy Spirit to guide and transform us (John 14:26)
A New Identity as a Child of God (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The Gospel in One Sentence:

"Jesus died for our sins and rose again, so that through faith in Him, we can be saved and have eternal life with God."

What Is Child Evangelism?

“People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’ ... He took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.”  (Mark 10:13–16)

Child evangelism is the process of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with children in a way they can understand, accept, and respond to. It is about introducing young hearts to the love of God, the message of salvation, and the hope found in Jesus.

  • Evangelism is declaring the good news of the gospel.

  • Child evangelism is sharing with a child the good news of how to receive the full forgiveness of God by entering into a personal relationship with Christ Jesus.

Biblical Foundation for Child Evangelism

  • Jesus Values Children – "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14)
  • Children Can Have Genuine Faith – Jesus commended the faith of children and encouraged adults to have childlike trust in Him. (Matthew 18:3-4)
  • Teaching Them God’s Word – "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

Key Aspects of Child Evangelism

  1. Presenting the Gospel in a Simple Way – Use clear, age-appropriate language to explain sin, salvation, and Jesus' love.
  2. Engaging with Stories and Visuals – Use Bible stories, illustrations, and activities to capture their attention.
  3. Encouraging a Personal Response – Help children understand how to accept Jesus as their Savior through prayer and faith.
  4. Living as an Example – Demonstrate Christ’s love through kindness, patience, and integrity.
  5. Discipleship and Growth – Continue teaching and guiding them in their walk with God through Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.

Why Is Child Evangelism Important?

  • Children are open to faith – Many people make a lifelong decision for Christ at an early age.
  • It builds a strong spiritual foundation – Teaching children biblical truth helps them navigate life with faith and confidence.
  • It fulfills the Great Commission – Jesus calls all believers to spread the gospel, including to the next generation. (Matthew 28:19-20)

By investing in child evangelism, we are planting seeds of faith that can grow into a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ.

Myths vs. Truth

Myth: “Young children are intellectually incapable of responding to salvation.”

Truth:  Young children are more capable of responding to the message of salvation than adults.“The disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’  He called a little child and had him stand among them.

And he said: ‘I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven’” Matthew 18:1-4

What Is the Gospel?

The Gospel is the good message of salvation available to us through faith in Christ and His finished work on the cross.

“By this gospel you are saved. ... Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures ... he was buried ... he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and ... he appeared to Cephas [Peter], and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred.”

(1 Corinthians 15:2–6)

Children Are Ready to Hear the Gospel When They Are ...

  • Reaping consequences from their own behavior
  • Expressing worry about the future
  • Asking a lot of questions
  • Drastically changing their behavior
  • Yielding to positive authority

75% of those who receive Christ do so before they are 14 years old.

All growth is a process, and each child will mature differently. Only God knows the true disposition of a young heart, that time when a child has reached an age of accountability—the age at which a child is capable of accepting or rejecting the Savior. As you nurture young children from birth in things of the Lord, rely on your own spiritual sensitivity to determine when they are ready to move from “spiritual baby food” to the meat of the gospel.

Children Are READY to Hear the Gospel When They Are...

  • Sharing love through physical touch
  • Seeing and meeting their emotional needs
  • Speaking with a loving tone of voice
  • Smiling each time you see them
  • Soothing their hurts and disappointments
  • Spending time reading to them
  • Saying no and enforcing it
  • Sharing ways to be thoughtful of others, saying please and thank you
  • Setting an example by your response to others, forgiving and meeting the needs of others
  • Saying bedtime prayers in the secure love of the Lord

Sharing Jesus with a Child

“Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”  Luke 18:16

Can a child grasp the reality of an unseen God?

Can a child understand salvation and the meaning of Christ’s death on the cross?

Introducing a child to Jesus is one of the greatest gifts you can give. Children have open hearts and curious minds, making it a wonderful opportunity to teach them about God's love in a way they can understand. Here are some simple and effective ways to share Jesus with a child.

Show Them God’s Love Through Your Actions

  • Children learn more from what they see than what they hear.

  • Be kind, patient, and forgiving—just as Jesus is.

  • Let them see you praying, reading the Bible, and loving others.

Bible Verse: "Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." (1 John 3:18)

Use Simple and Clear Language

  • Explain the Gospel in a way they can easily understand:

    • God loves you and created you (John 3:16).

    • Sin separates us from God (Romans 3:23).

    • Jesus died and rose again to take away our sin (Romans 5:8).

    • We can accept Jesus and have a forever friendship with Him (Romans 10:9).

Read Bible Stories Together

  • Use a children’s Bible with pictures to make stories come alive.

  • Share about Jesus' miracles, kindness, and His great love.

  • Ask questions to help them think: "What do you think Jesus was like?"

Bible Verse: "Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ." (Romans 10:17)

Pray With and For Them

  • Encourage them to talk to God in simple words.

  • Let them hear you pray for them, thanking God for their life.

  • Teach them a simple prayer to invite Jesus into their heart.

Example Prayer:
"Dear Jesus, I know You love me. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I want You to be my Savior and my best friend. Please come into my heart and help me follow You. Amen."

Answer Their Questions with Patience

  • Children may ask, "Where is God?" or "Why did Jesus have to die?"

  • Answer honestly, using Scripture and simple examples.

  • Encourage curiosity and let them know it’s okay to ask questions.

Encourage a Personal Relationship with Jesus

  • Help them understand that knowing Jesus is not just about rules but about a loving friendship.

  • Teach them that Jesus is always with them and they can talk to Him anytime.

Bible Verse: "I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

Get Them Involved in Faith Activities

  • Attend church, Sunday school, or a kids' Bible study together.

  • Play Christian music, watch Bible-based cartoons, and do faith-based crafts.

  • Make learning about Jesus fun and engaging!

Celebrate Their Decision for Christ

  • If they choose to follow Jesus, celebrate with joy!

  • Encourage them to grow in their faith by reading the Bible, praying, and loving others.

Planting the seeds of faith in a child's heart is a precious and powerful act. As you share Jesus with them, trust that God will continue to work in their life.

Bible Verse: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”  Proverbs 22:6

As children learn about Jesus, His life, His death, and His resurrection, they learn to respond to God’s love. Their salvation is desirable, for Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”  (Mark 10:14)

On another occasion He said, “Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 18:3

Practical Ways to Prepare a Child’s Heart for God

  • Model Christlike Character – Let your actions reflect Jesus' love and integrity. (Titus 2:7-8)
  • Express Gratitude to God – Praise Him openly for His blessings in your child's presence. (Psalm 34:1)
  • Incorporate Worship Through Music – Play and sing uplifting Christian songs together. (Psalm 66:1-2)
  • Surround Your Home with Spiritual Reminders – Display Bible verses and faith-centered decorations. (Deuteronomy 6:5-9)
  • Set Aside Time for Scripture – Establish a daily family devotion to read and discuss God's Word. (2 Timothy 3:14-15)
  • Encourage Scripture Memorization – Write verses on cards or creative cutouts for easy learning. (Psalm 119:11)
  • Pray Together and for Your Child – Make prayer a natural and regular part of life. (Colossians 1:9-10)
  • Prioritize Spiritual Growth – Engage in Bible-based programs that nurture faith. (Proverbs 22:6)
  • Use Play as a Teaching Tool – Create games and activities that highlight God's truth. (3 John 4)

By intentionally incorporating these practices, you can help cultivate a child’s heart to know, love, and follow God.
