GOD GOALS

What Are God's Goals?

God's goals for humanity are centered on His glory, relationship with His creation, and redeeming the world. As we look at the Bible, we can discern several key goals that reflect His heart and purpose:

The Glory of God

One of God's primary goals is to receive glory. His desire is for His greatness to be recognized and worshipped by all people.

  • Isaiah 43:7"Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."
  • Romans 11:36"For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen."

👉 God’s ultimate purpose is to be glorified through His creation, including us as His image-bearers.

Relationship with His People

God desires a personal relationship with us. His goal is for us to know Him, love Him, and walk in fellowship with Him.

  • Jeremiah 31:33"This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people."
  • Revelation 3:20"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."

👉 God's goal is that we would have an intimate relationship with Him, where He dwells with us and we walk in His ways.

Redemption of Humanity

God's goal is to redeem humanity from sin and restore us to the original relationship He intended when He created us.

  • John 3:16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
  • 2 Peter 3:9"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

👉 God desires all people to be saved and reconciled to Him through faith in Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Growth and Transformation

God’s goal is for us to grow spiritually, becoming more like Christ and living in holiness. He wants us to be transformed by His Word and His Spirit.

  • Romans 8:29"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."
  • Ephesians 4:13"Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."

👉 God’s desire is for us to mature in faith, bearing fruit and becoming more like Jesus every day.

The Expansion of His Kingdom

God's goal is to extend His kingdom on earth, through the spread of the gospel, so that more people can come to know Him.

  • Matthew 28:19-20"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
  • Psalm 2:8"Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession."

👉 God’s kingdom is expanding, and He wants His followers to participate in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with the world.

Justice, Mercy, and Peace

God desires that His people act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him, bringing peace and justice into a broken world.

  • Micah 6:8"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
  • Matthew 5:9"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."

👉 God’s heart is for His people to live justly, show mercy, and bring peace to the world.

Eternal Life with Him

Ultimately, God’s goal is that we would enjoy eternal life with Him, in His presence, where there will be no more pain or suffering.

  • John 14:3"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
  • Revelation 21:3-4"And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.'"

👉 God’s ultimate goal is to bring us into eternal communion with Him, free from suffering.

God’s goals for us are centered on His glory, the redemption of humanity, spiritual growth, the expansion of His kingdom, and eternal life with Him. He desires for us to know Him, live in His love, and fulfill His purposes on earth. As we align our goals with His, we join Him in His eternal plan.

God’s Heart on Having Godly Goals

God's heart for us is that we would align our lives with His purposes, setting goals that reflect His desires and lead us to greater faithfulness, obedience, and glory. God’s goals for our lives are always rooted in His love for us and His desire to see us grow, flourish, and fulfill His divine plan.

God’s Goals Focus on His Glory

One of God’s main desires is for His glory to be revealed in our lives. When we set goals, we should ask ourselves whether these goals honor God, showcase His goodness, and reflect His character.

  • Isaiah 43:7"Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."
  • 1 Corinthians 10:31"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

👉 God's heart is that everything we do, including the goals we set, should reflect His glory.

God’s Goals Involve Loving Him and Loving Others

Jesus summed up God’s heart for our goals in two great commandments: to love God and love others. These are the foundation for any godly goal. When we pursue goals, they should be centered on loving God with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and loving our neighbors as ourselves.

  • Matthew 22:37-39"Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
  • John 13:34-35"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

👉 God desires that our goals help us grow in love for Him and for others, reflecting His love in everything we do.

God’s Goals Lead to Spiritual Growth and Transformation

God’s ultimate goal is that we become more like Christ. The goals we set in our lives should push us toward spiritual growth, increasing in holiness and becoming more Christ-like.

  • Romans 8:29"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."
  • 2 Corinthians 3:18"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

👉 God’s heart is for us to set goals that move us toward spiritual maturity and transformation into the likeness of Christ.

God’s Goals are Rooted in His Kingdom

God’s heart is that His Kingdom would expand and that we would participate in that mission. The goals we set should align with advancing God’s kingdom on earth, which involves spreading the Gospel, making disciples, and living out God’s values in the world.

  • Matthew 6:33"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
  • Matthew 28:19-20"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

👉 God’s heart is for us to set goals that contribute to the growth and expansion of His Kingdom through discipleship, evangelism, and living out His values.

God’s Goals Lead to Blessing and Joy

When we align our goals with God’s will, they lead to blessings, not just for ourselves, but also for others. True success, according to God, is not just about achieving personal ambition but seeing God’s kingdom flourish and bringing about good in the lives of others.

  • Jeremiah 29:11"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."
  • Psalm 37:4"Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

👉 God’s heart is that our goals lead to our ultimate fulfillment and joy as we walk in His purposes.

God’s Goals Are Rooted in Faith and Trust

When we set goals, God desires that we step out in faith, trusting Him for the outcome. He is the one who equips us, empowers us, and provides what we need to accomplish the tasks He has set before us.

  • Proverbs 3:5-6"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
  • Philippians 4:13"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

👉 God’s heart is that we trust Him to guide us as we pursue the goals He places in our hearts.

God’s goals for us are centered on His glory, our spiritual growth, the advancement of His Kingdom, and loving others as He loves us. He desires for us to set goals that reflect His priorities, trust Him in the process, and allow His will to unfold in our lives. When we align our goals with God's heart, we experience His blessings, joy, and purpose.

Scriptures on Having God Goals

Here are several Scriptures that support the idea of having God-centered goals in our lives:

Seek God’s Kingdom First

One of the core principles of having godly goals is putting God's Kingdom and righteousness above everything else. This shows that our priorities should align with God's will.

  • Matthew 6:33"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Trust in God’s Plan for Your Life

God has specific plans for each of us, and we are called to trust Him in our goal-setting process, knowing that His ways are better than our own.

  • Jeremiah 29:11"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."

Commit Your Plans to the Lord

God encourages us to submit our goals and plans to Him, so He can guide us according to His will. Trusting in His wisdom ensures that our goals align with His purposes.

  • Proverbs 16:3"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."

Pursue Righteousness and Godliness

Setting goals that reflect God’s values, such as righteousness and godliness, is crucial to living a life that honors Him.

  • 1 Timothy 6:11"But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness."

Striving for the Goal of Christlikeness

God’s goal for us is to become more like Christ, so our personal goals should focus on growing in Christlikeness.

  • Romans 8:29"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."

Setting Goals with God’s Glory in Mind

Our goals should always be set with the purpose of glorifying God, as He is worthy of all honor and praise.

  • 1 Corinthians 10:31"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

God Guides Us in Our Goals

God promises to guide us and direct our steps as we submit to His will, helping us make wise decisions in line with His goals for our lives.

  • Psalm 32:8"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you."

Serving God Through Our Goals

God’s heart is that we would use our goals to serve others and spread His love, particularly in the way we live and serve others.

  • Matthew 5:16"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Persevering in Goals Through God’s Strength

Pursuing godly goals requires perseverance, and God gives us the strength to continue even when the journey is tough.

  • Philippians 4:13"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

The Goal of Eternal Life with God

Ultimately, the greatest goal for every believer is eternal life with God, and everything else should point toward that eternal purpose.

  • 1 John 2:25"And this is what he promised us—eternal life."

God calls us to pursue goals that align with His Kingdom, reflect His righteousness, and bring glory to His name. By trusting in Him, committing our plans to Him, and seeking His will, we can set godly goals that lead to spiritual growth, transformation, and eternal rewards.
