KINGDOM BUILDING

Key Aspects of Kingdom Building:

Kingdom building refers to the process of advancing and establishing God’s reign and influence on earth. In Christian terms, it is the work of spreading the gospel, discipling others, and living in a way that reflects God's values, bringing people into relationship with Him and working to bring about His will on earth.

Kingdom building involves more than just individual salvation; it encompasses collective efforts that lead to societal transformation, community development, and the spread of God's love and truth. It is about reflecting God's character in every area of life—whether personal, social, or cultural—and bringing heaven's influence into the world.

  1. Preaching the Gospel: The primary mission of building God's kingdom is to spread the good news of Jesus Christ, which is the foundation of salvation and the entrance into God's kingdom.

    • Matthew 28:19-20“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
  2. Discipling and Teaching: Kingdom building is about making disciples—helping others grow in their faith, understand God's Word, and live according to His teachings.

    • Matthew 28:19-20 – As Jesus said, “Go and make disciples... teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
    • 2 Timothy 2:2“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
  3. Living According to Kingdom Values: Christians are called to live as representatives of God’s kingdom by embodying the values and principles of God’s reign, which include love, justice, mercy, humility, and service.

    • Matthew 5:3-12 (The Beatitudes) – Describes the values of God's kingdom, such as being poor in spirit, meek, merciful, and pure in heart.
    • Matthew 6:33“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
  4. Serving Others: Kingdom building involves serving others and helping meet their needs—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Acts of service are an essential part of reflecting God's love.

    • Matthew 25:35-40"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink... whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
  5. Prayer and Seeking God's Will: Kingdom building requires a heart aligned with God’s purposes, often expressed through prayer, intercession, and seeking God’s guidance in all things.

    • Matthew 6:10“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
  6. Transforming Society and Culture: As Christians engage in kingdom building, they are also called to be salt and light in the world, influencing culture, politics, business, and society with godly values.

    • Matthew 5:13-16“You are the salt of the earth... You are the light of the world.”
  7. Working in Unity and Fellowship: Building God’s kingdom involves cooperation and working together in unity with other believers, as the church is the body of Christ and a key agent of kingdom expansion.

    • Ephesians 4:3“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
  8. Anticipating the Fullness of God's Kingdom: While God's kingdom has been inaugurated through Jesus' first coming, kingdom building also involves looking forward to its ultimate fulfillment in the second coming of Christ. Believers live in the tension between the "already" and the "not yet."

    • Revelation 11:15“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.”

Kingdom building is the process of advancing God’s reign on earth by spreading the gospel, making disciples, living according to kingdom principles, serving others, and transforming society. It's about reflecting the character and values of God’s kingdom in all areas of life, while anticipating the future fullness of God's reign. It’s not just about personal salvation but about collectively working to establish God’s will on earth as it is in heaven.

God's Heart on Kingdom Building

God's heart on kingdom building is centered on His desire to bring His reign to the earth and for all people to experience His love, mercy, and justice. Kingdom building is not just about individual salvation, but about transforming lives, communities, and cultures to reflect God's will and glory. God's heart for kingdom building includes seeing people reconciled to Him, living according to His righteous ways, and bringing others into that same relationship.

Key Aspects of God’s Heart on Kingdom Building:

  1. Desire for All to Know His Kingdom: God's heart is for all people to be invited into His kingdom. He does not want anyone to be left out but desires all to be saved and experience His grace.

    • 2 Peter 3:9“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
    • Matthew 28:18-20“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.’”
  2. Building His Kingdom Through Love and Service: The kingdom of God is built through love, selflessness, and serving others. God's kingdom is not about dominance or power, but about humility, love, and serving those in need.

    • Matthew 20:26-28“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve...”
    • John 13:34-35“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
  3. Establishing Justice and Righteousness: God’s kingdom is characterized by justice and righteousness. He desires His people to advocate for the oppressed and ensure that justice is done in His name.

    • Isaiah 1:17“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”
    • Psalm 103:6“The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.”
  4. Spreading the Gospel: Central to kingdom building is the spreading of the gospel—the good news of Jesus Christ. The gospel is the key that unlocks the kingdom of God, and it is through faith in Christ that people are brought into His kingdom.

    • Luke 4:43“But he said, ‘I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.’”
    • Romans 10:14-15“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?”
  5. Transforming Communities and Culture: God’s kingdom extends beyond the individual and affects entire communities and cultures. Believers are called to be salt and light in the world, bringing God’s truth, love, and justice to every aspect of society—politics, business, education, and relationships.

    • Matthew 5:13-16“You are the salt of the earth... You are the light of the world... Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
    • Jeremiah 29:7“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
  6. Living Out the Kingdom Values: Kingdom building is not just about external action but also about internal transformation. The values of the kingdom—humility, mercy, purity, peace—should shape the lives of believers, who are called to live differently from the world.

    • Matthew 5:3-12 – The Beatitudes describe the values of God's kingdom: humility, mercy, righteousness, and peacemaking.
    • Romans 12:2“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
  7. God’s Kingdom is Eternal: God's kingdom is eternal, and His ultimate goal is to bring about the fullness of His kingdom in the new heavens and new earth. Kingdom building on earth is the beginning of the eternal reign of God.

    • Revelation 11:15“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.”
    • Revelation 21:3-4“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes.’”

God’s heart for kingdom building is rooted in His deep desire for people to experience His love, salvation, justice, and peace. It involves spreading the gospel, serving others, living according to kingdom values, and transforming society. Kingdom building is a collective effort to see God's will done on earth as it is in heaven, and it is accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through believers. God’s heart is for His kingdom to grow, not just in numbers, but in influence, transforming every area of life to reflect His glory.

Here are several scriptures that support and emphasize kingdom building as part of God's will and mission for His people:

The Great Commission - Spreading the Gospel and Making Disciples

  • Matthew 28:18-20“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
  • This commission is at the heart of kingdom building—making disciples and teaching them to live according to God's will.

Living as Citizens of the Kingdom

  • Philippians 3:20“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
  • As believers, we are called to live as citizens of God's kingdom here on earth, reflecting His values and priorities.

Seeking the Kingdom of God First

  • Matthew 6:33“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
  • Prioritizing God’s kingdom above all else is foundational to kingdom building.

The Kingdom Belongs to the Poor in Spirit

  • Matthew 5:3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
  • Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is for those who recognize their spiritual poverty and dependence on God, which marks the beginning of kingdom building.

Kingdom Growth through the Gospel

  • Mark 4:30-32“Again he said, ‘What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.’”
  • The kingdom of God grows, sometimes starting small, but it will expand and flourish as the gospel is spread.

Kingdom Influence on Earth

  • Matthew 5:14-16“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
  • Believers are called to live in such a way that their lives reflect the kingdom of God, influencing the world around them.

Justice and Righteousness in the Kingdom

  • Isaiah 1:17“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”
  • Kingdom building involves not only proclaiming the gospel but also living out God’s justice and mercy, serving others and advocating for the marginalized.

The Kingdom is Not of This World

  • John 18:36“Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.’”
  • Jesus makes it clear that while His kingdom is spiritual and eternal, its effects should still be seen in the way believers live and act on earth.

The Kingdom is Built on God's Word

  • Matthew 13:19“When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.”
  • The kingdom of God is built through the sowing of God's word. The message of the kingdom must take root in the hearts of people.

The Lord’s Prayer - A Prayer for God’s Kingdom

  • Matthew 6:10“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
  • In this prayer, Jesus teaches His followers to pray for God’s kingdom to be established on earth, a reflection of the full realization of God’s reign in the world.

God’s Kingdom is About Serving Others

  • Mark 9:35“Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, ‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.’”
  • Serving others is a key principle of kingdom building. The greatest in the kingdom of God are those who serve.

Kingdom Building Requires Perseverance

  • Galatians 6:9“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
  • Building God’s kingdom requires endurance, staying committed to spreading the gospel, living in His truth, and serving others.

These scriptures emphasize the importance of spreading the gospel, living righteously, serving others, and seeking the growth and expansion of God’s kingdom in our world. As believers, we are called to reflect God’s heart for kingdom building through our actions, words, and devotion to His mission.
