Time, effort, and meticulous planning go into the wedding. What about the marriage? Maybe you’re cynical about marriage because of the failed marriages you see around you. Maybe your own marriage has deflated and your hope of ever having a fulfilling marriage relationship has disappeared.
The Women of Faith resources will help you come to appreciate marriage as the purposeful covenant relationship God intends for it to be. Learn how to find your identity in Christ—not in your mate, discuss tangible ways to improve your marriage, and discover how male and female differences bring balance to the marriage relationship.
The Bible begins and ends with a marriage (see Genesis 2:18–25; Revelation 19:6–9). Throughout Scripture, God gives insight into His heart regarding marriage. The plans He has set out for us are for our benefit—our greatest good and joy.
Today's Marriages
Today’s marriages need intention more than ever before. There are currently 60.8 million marriages in the United States. Divorce rates are 50% for first marriages, 67% for second marriages and 74% for third marriages. Whether the marriage is struggling, healthy, or in the pre-marital phase, The Intentional Marriage offers programs to build stronger communication, connection, commitment and relationship.
Couples need to spend time looking at what is important in keeping marriage fresh and alive. We are committed to helping couples reach a new level of effectiveness in their marriage and creating a culture of growth in marriages that focuses on Jesus.

What Are God’s Purposes for Marriage?
God has a unique purpose for the marriage covenant. The marital relationship affords you the awesome opportunity to showcase Christ’s relationship to His bride (the church). In the same way that Christ sacrificially gave Himself to the church, you and your mate should be willing to sacrifice your individual desires for the sake of your marriage covenant.
“He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 18:22)
- Partnership – (Amos 3:3)
God has given you and your mate to one another as partners for life. True companionship grows within the marriage relationship when there is emotional, spiritual and physical unity. - Pleasure – (Proverbs 5:18)
The marriage relationship and your mate are God’s special gifts to you. True enjoyment of your mate will grow out of self-control and a servant’s heart. - Parenting – (Genesis 1:28)
God’s first command in Scripture was for Adam and Eve to be “fruitful and multiply.” God desires that the earth be filled with godly offspring. - Perfecting – (Romans 8:29)
In the intimate relationship of marriage, you become well aware of your partner’s shortcomings. Your partner is also well aware of your shortcomings! God uses both your weaknesses and strengths to sharpen and conform you and your partner to the image of Christ.
The Covenant Commitment
- The marriage covenant is not just between two people, it is between two people andGod.
“What God has joined together, let no one separate” (Mark 10:9).
- The marriage covenant requires self-sacrifice and a commitment till death.
“May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth” (Proverbs 5:18).
- The marriage covenant holds each person singly responsible to demonstrate a covenant of love and loyalty, even if the mate does not respond accordingly.
“As far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:18).
