THE ALITA REYNOLDS SHOWÂ
Why We Struggle to Forgive Others | Alita Reynolds | Women of Faith
Finding Freedom through Forgiveness Series | Part 3
In this episode, I discuss the 5 most common reasons why we find it difficult to forgive others, and trust me, I've been there with all of these.
The 5 Reasons We Don't Want to Forgive:
- "I don't think it's right to forgive when I don't feel like it"
- Truth: Forgiveness is a choice, not a feeling. We lead with truth, not emotions.
- "I can forgive everyone else, but not THAT person"
- Truth: God's power within us is sufficient to forgive ANY sin committed against us.
- "Forgiveness isn't fair - they should pay for what they did"
- Truth: Vengeance belongs to God, not us. We can trust His justice.
- "I've forgiven but it doesn't help - they keep doing it"
- Truth: You can't control others, only your response. Sometimes healthy boundaries are needed.
- "I can't forgive and forget - I keep thinking about the hurt"
- Truth: Forgiveness doesn't require forgetting, but it does require choosing not to rehearse the pain.
The Game-Changer: Renewing Your Mind
The breakthrough moment for me was understanding that true forgiveness requires mind renewal at the CORE level, not just intellectual understanding, but heart transformation. When our minds are completely renewed, we produce good fruit and find true freedom.
Remember: Forgiveness ≠Reconciliation. You can forgive without returning to the same relationship dynamic.
