Word to the Wise: Searching for Diamonds
Proverbs 2:4-5 says, “If you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.”
Who doesn’t love the idea of searching for treasure? How many movies have we watched that center around that theme? The allure of treasure just waiting to be discovered by someone brave enough and committed enough to go after it. God’s wisdom is a treasure that’s even better!
I want to search for hidden treasures; I’m committed and willing to search for those diamonds! I’m brave enough to seek His wisdom! I’m willing to hunt for wisdom as though they are diamonds. Are you?
In July, our Women of Faith Ambassadors are studying the monthly topic, Word to the Wise. The book of Proverbs has so much wisdom. I wonder if we as Jesus followers are willing to search high and low for it? Are we keeping on the adventure of looking for the treasure found in the knowledge of God? We don’t have to go looking far, for all our answers are in ONE book, the B-I-B-L-E. Yes, that’s the book for me. (Remember that children’s song at church?!?)
It is all right there for us. So often we KNOW what we need to do in life. We don’t always do it. KNOWING what to do and actually being WISE are two different things altogether. Here are a couple of simple examples:
One KNOWS what to could be said in a conflict. WISDOM may be staying silent.
One KNOWS who to turn to when needing perfect advice. WISDOM is knowing when and how.
What if we went on a treasure hunt, found a diamond and yet chose to not even pick it up and take it along. I do not know anyone who would actually do that! What would be the point of the hunt? Would you even want to go on that adventure?
KNOWING is seeing the diamond and not picking it up.
WISDOM is picking up the diamond and creating a bright future with it.
Our bright future flourishes when we apply what we know to our daily life. More important than any monetary treasure, God’s wisdom is priceless.
WISDOM is knowing what to do and actually DOING it! Sooo simple and yet so difficult!?!
Interestingly enough, there are 31 Proverbs and in July, there are 31 days. Coincidence? Never! I challenge you to start your day off right by reading the chapter in Proverbs that correlates to the day of the month. (On July 1st you read Proverbs 1, on July 2nd you read Proverbs 2, etc.) A wise friend of mine shared this idea with me, and this is now my fourth consecutive month of reading the Proverbs in this way. I’m using different Bible translations each month to continue on this hunt for wisdom. It has definitely been a true treasure hunting journey. A diamond treasure hunting journey! What an adventure! Diamonds are everywhere; and when I choose to focus on applying His wisdom to my life, everything changes. Absolutely everything! My walk with Jesus, my relationships with my husband, family and friends, and my decision making, to name a few.
As Women of Faith Ambassadors, one of the three strands we focus on is Life Leadership. What does that mean? Well, as a woman of faith, a Life Leader leads herself well in all aspects of life and is a good role model to lead others to do the same in their home, work and community. Life Leaders seek and search for wisdom - together as Sisters in Christ. Life Leaders not only know the path to take, we are wise enough to take the path! Join us on this adventure. Choose this path of wisdom with us!

Alita has learned through lots of ups and downs (more downs than one would like to admit!) that there is more to life than what you may currently be experiencing. She fiercely defends and lifts up the hope and grace we can receive in Jesus Christ. She has a love for family, friends, leading, church, mentoring, fitness, summer days, starting new projects, philanthropy, writing, and walking with Jesus, not necessarily in that order! Alita also loves to talk with and interview believers to share their amazing stories of how God’s grace and mercy works in their lives. Alita chooses to create opportunities to encourage everyone to find their God-given purpose, live a life of excellence, elevate all areas of their lives to bring others to Christ, and lock arms together to Be the Light! Alita is real and authentic, with a deep desire to create movements that will radically change the world. The truth is, this all starts at home in Lincoln, Nebraska; and there is no place she would rather be than spending time with her husband, GJ, and three children, Logan-21, Rees-20 and Lexi-14.
