Choosing Consistency Over the "Feel-Good" Spark

Hi friend,

We have been diving deep in our series on life leadership, and today I want to get really honest with you about something we all struggle with: the battle between motivation and discipline.

We often wait for that "spark" to get started, that feeling of being pumped up and ready to take on the world. Let’s be real: motivation is fickle. It’s emotion-based, and it’s temporary. If we only lead or serve when we feel like it, we’ll never reach the goals the Lord has placed in our hearts.

Biblical life leadership is about influencing others toward Christ, and that requires a spirit of self-control, or discipline. I like to think of discipline as the fuel that keeps the fire burning long after the initial spark of motivation has faded. It’s like pushing a boulder up a hill. At first, it’s heavy and exhausting. But as you stay consistent, the level of effort eases and it’s no longer an uphill battle. It becomes "just what you do."

Are you waiting to "feel" like studying your Bible, or "feel" like starting that project the Lord laid on your heart? My encouragement to you today is to stop listening to your ever changing feelings and start leaning into the strength of the Holy Spirit. Discipline also comes with a measure of grace, because being disciplined does not mean being perfect. It just means that you are persistent.

I share so much more on how to break through and move into a life of purpose in this most recent episode of The Alita Reynolds Show, How to Stay Disciplined When You Don’t Feel Like It | Life Leadership Part 2. I would love for you to join me for the rest of this conversation, and discover how to develop your self-discipline muscles today!

I’m wildly cheering you!
