GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF US

Away with you, Satan! For it is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.” —Matthew 4:10

When Satan tempted Jesus to jump off the pinnacle of the temple in Jerusalem to prove that Jesus was the Son of God, Satan played on the human fear of feeling insignificant.

Do you ever feel like a nobody? Do you wonder if anyone sees all that you do or if anyone cares? Do you ever fear your voice will simply never be heard? Our culture and, at times, our churches seem more impressed with charisma than character. We make heroes out of very flawed people and then wonder why they come crashing to the ground.

It has always been one of Satan’s most powerful tools to tempt us to try to be “somebody.” In the  garden of Eden, he told Eve, “God knows that the moment you eat from that tree, you’ll see what’s really going on. You’ll be just like God” (Genesis 3:4 MSG). The appeal was too much for Eve to resist; she took from the only tree in the garden forbidden to her.

To Jesus, standing on the top of the temple, Satan’s approach was the same: Show your stuff! Show them who you really are! Perhaps Satan hoped Christ would plunge to his death.

How many times has Satan tripped us up by tempting us to grab it all? Power is a heady drug. Satan’s whisper is, You’ll get away with it.

But Jesus said, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God’” (Matthew 4:7). It is to God, and God alone, that all glory goes. We are to enjoy his provision.

We need not fear anything. God has shown us again and again that he has our best interests at heart. He will provide for us. He will comfort us. He will reveal himself to us.
