IT’S ALWAYS A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR KINDNESS
IT’S ALWAYS A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR KINDNESS
Have you ever had a friend who changed your life? In A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, Mister Rogers loves his friend Lloyd by listening to his story, hearing his hurt, and encouraging him to forgive. He sees and accepts his friend as a child of God, illustrating how one person can inspire a world of kindness.
Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about kindness, love and forgiveness from America’s most beloved neighbor. Directed by Marielle Heller. Written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue & Noah Harpster; inspired by the article “Can You Say … Hero?” by Tom Junod.
“He had that amazing gift of looking at a person and seeing what that person needed,” says Tom Junod. “He was gonna minister to that person. And that person, in this particular case, was me.”
As an ordained minister, Mister Rogers famously considered his work in television to be a ministry. He called the space between the TV set and the viewer “holy ground.” He was committed to telling viewers that they were unique and special, and that they didn’t have to wait until they were grown up to be acceptable.
“I hope that people take a moment to reflect on themselves, and their own emotional self, and their own emotional well-being,” says director Marielle Heller.
A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD opens nationwide on November 22.
