Peace River is the story of Casey Shane, a fifth-generation New Mexico Rancher, who is raised by his Grandfather, Bo Shane, a WWII vet, who pours his life’s love and wisdom into Casey. Learning the ways of the Cowboy alongside his childhood friend, Maria Martinez, Casey is a championship-caliber bull rider. Casey and Maria form a romantic bond before Casey enlists in the U.S. Army and joins the elite Special Forces. Immediately following the events of September 11, 2001, Casey is deployed to Afghanistan where he fights alongside the Northern Alliance when wounded. Returning home, crushed by War and Personal Loss, Casey must draw on the Cowboy Way and a profound Faith in Christ to recover the Will to Live and the Love of his Life.

I am beyond grateful to have been cast as Maria Martinez; a woman of rugged dynamic authenticity, deep spiritual reliance on God, and captivating virtue instilled in her by the generations prior.  Maria is a women who learns the deepest depths of heartache and loss that drive her dependence and reliance on God in a whole new way amidst life’s most devastating trials.

She discovers what anchoring her earthly weakness of the flesh into Biblical Truths really looks like when temptation and second chances are readily available. As this unimaginable darkness begins to overwhelm her, Maria learns to channel  her pain and anger into compassion and truth.  These life lessons were not learned lightly or without guidance from the Holy Spirit. Unexplainable peace can come in the most unexpected moments.

When Maria was faced with her lost love telling her everything she dreamed to hear, rather than succumbing to the weakness of her flesh, she chose to invest the years of turmoil and chosen growth into a life of Godly standards and decision making that might not make sense to the secular world.  Maria learned through grace and mercy how to love her brokenness first.

The Holy Spirit changed her heart of stone into one of strength, dignity, and wisdom (Proverbs 31:26).  Once her heart was softened and her skin thickened, only then could she open her heart to see God’s magnificent goodness in the face of the one who tortured her heart the most; a heart that only God could mend and allow a holy healing to begin. Transformative redemption can divinely purify your life. If you willingly choose to work through the blistering pain (rather than go around that which we wholeheartedly try to avoid) you will then recognize the throne of your heart was only designed for God as He transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

No one's life is perfect, we are all broken in some way. Love in action is needed at every level of brokenness. No one is the hero who has done no wrong. The only hero is Christ. He was without sin and still died in the place of those of us totally broken and unable to fix ourselves. If we call Christ our Savior then we've been called to be put on Christ (Romans 13:14), act like Him, Love like He first loved us (1 John 4:19) so that as we walk out love, our brokenness reveals His grace and the person we are loving...in their brokenness, Love is proven (1 Corinthians 13).

Loving the broken is learning first to love ourselves so we can love others.
