My Dad and Our Abba Father

From God’s perspective, all fathers are created to reflect His goodness.

Landscaping is one of my love languages.

I LOVE the mature trees and the gorgeous berms with bushes, grasses, and flowers in our yard.

I LOVE cutting the flowers right from my flower beds and arranging them to enjoy them inside.

I LOVE maintaining the yard, pulling weeds, pruning the bushes, and transplanting flowers to different areas to freshen it up.

This past summer, I even reset a couple of eroded flagstone pathways.  Yes, it was my summer workout!

However, a few of our oldest evergreen trees died last year.

My amazing husband, GJ, is in charge of the larger projects in the yard.  He had cut down most of the tree, clearing most of the limbs and branches. His mid-sized chain saw couldn’t quite cut the large stump, though. So we had a “beautiful?” view of the big tree stump in our yard for months!

I asked GJ more frequently if he planned to clear out the stump any time soon.

I had thought about asking my dad, and it was easier to continually remind GJ and wait on him to make it happen. GJ needed the right equipment, including a large chain saw, to finish the project.

Then one day, my dad called, offering to haul away the stump. He came to the rescue!

Within hours of my dad’s offer to help, he pulled up with all the equipment needed.  He had the large chainsaw with the truck and trailer to haul it away.  Plus, his manpower to complete the task of a cleaned-up yard.

My lovely yard was beautiful once again.  I was one happy daughter!

After his generous offer to help and his quick response to complete the project, I started to reflect on how my earthly father reflects the image of our heavenly father.

From God’s perspective, all fathers are created to reflect His goodness.

I wanted a project to be complete, but I didn’t even bother to ask my dad for help. He simply came to the rescue because he knows me and my love for my yard. He helps me whenever he can because he loves me.

In the same way, our heavenly father knows what we need before we even ask Him.

…your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:8b

Sometimes I don’t even have to ask for God’s help when I have a need. (Although I highly believe in asking for God’s help.)

He just shows up, with all the right equipment to help because He knows me, his daughter, and the best way to help me because He loves me.

Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. Psalm 54:4

I needed help from my dad, and he supplied just what I needed.  Just like our heavenly Father supplies for all our needs.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Today, and every day, I am so thankful for my dad and his reflection of our Abba Father.
