The Search for Who I Am?

There is one question that I believe at some level each one of us is attempting to answer with all of the things that we do in our life. This question shows up in our workplace, in our parenting, in our friendships, and in our marriages! The question is, “who am I?!”
The lack of identity is an epidemic of our culture today! I believe that a high percentage of people are aimlessly walking into situations, relationships, events and careers without having any understanding or idea of who they are. All of this creates devastation in peoples lives on a daily basis.
This is all a part of the enemy’s plan! The enemy is known as the father of lies in the Bible, so he loves nothing more than to lie to us. And also to get us to lie to ourselves! If he can get us to lie to ourselves and believe the lies that he tells us ultimately he knows that we will get off track with our life that God has intended for us.
“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44 NIV)”
Daily, people buy into the lie “if I just had a different house I would be more successful, if I only had a different job then I will finally be happy, if I had a different spouse then maybe my life would be more for filling!” These and other lies creep into our thoughts if we do not take time to guard ourselves and our marriage against the enemy.
So it is time to take action in our culture! It is our own individual responsibility to seek God and ask Him who He has created us to be. Understanding this has got to be a priority in our life or we will continue to find ourselves in devastating situations more and more!
The first step to understanding our identity is to ask God the question, who am I? He wants to show us who he created us to be and wants us to walk in the freedom that comes with this understanding. It is our belief that a marriage will not be functioning at the capacity that God desires for us until both the husband and wife step into their understanding of who God created them to be. When this takes place, then the marriage can be used as an impact to other couples to expand the Kingdom!
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27 NIV)
