Today, everything changes. Today, new life begins. The tomb is empty and Jesus is alive!
THE TRUTH ABOUT JESUS WAS NOT FINALLY REVEALED UNTIL HIS RESURRECTION. THE RESURRECTION WAS THE SEAL AND CONFIRMATION OF JESUS CHRIST’S SAVING ACTIVITY ON THE CROSS OF CALVARY.
THIS IS WHY THE GOSPELS DO NOT EXPLAIN THE RESURRECTION. THE RESURRECTION ALONE IS WHAT EXPLAINS THE GOSPELS. THE RESURRECTION IS ALSO THE NECESSARY COMPLEMENT AND SEQUEL TO THE INCARNATION.
JESUS’ RESURRECTION IS THAT ONE EVENT IN WHICH THE MESSIAH WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD AND HIS BODY BROUGHT TO LIFE IN ORDER TO DEMONSTRATE THE COMPLETED WORK OF REDEMPTION.
NOT ONLY DID CHRIST DEMONSTRATE HIS COMPLETION OF REDEMPTION, BUT GOD ALSO IN POWER AND MIGHT, STRUCK DOWN DEATH IN TOTAL DEFEAT.
THIS IS WHY, DOWN THROUGH THE AGES, CHRISTIANS HAVE ALWAYS PROCLAIMED THAT THEY WANT TO, "KNOW CHRIST AND THE POWER OF HIS RESURRECTION AND THE FELLOWSHIP OF SHARING IN HIS SUFFERINGS, BECOMING LIKE HIM IN HIS DEATH, AND SO, SOMEHOW, TO ATTAIN TO THE RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD."
CHRISTIANS UNDERSTAND THE RESURRECTION TOGETHER WITH THE CROSS TO BE HISTORY’S MOST IMPORTANT EVENT. THE DESPAIR OF ALL PAST HISTORY IS REVERSED BY IT. THE HOPE OF ALL FUTURE HISTORY IS ENABLED BY IT. IT IS OF ALL EVENTS THE MOST ILLUMINATING DISCLOSURE OF GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION.
TO UNDERSTAND THE RESURRECTION IS TO UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF HISTORY FROM ITS END! THIS IS WHY LUKE 24:34, "THE LORD HAS RISEN INDEED" IS NOW OUR TESTIMONY.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,
18Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,
19And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
25Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
5And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
6And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
7But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
1Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8And they remembered his words,
9And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
10It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
11And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
12Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
6He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
