We Gather Together
We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known.
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing,
Sing praises to His name; He forgets not His own.
Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, was at our side, all glory be Thine!
We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant,
And pray that Thou still our Defender wilt be.
Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
(Anonymous Dutch Hymn)
Right about now families and friends across the U.S. (and beyond) are making plans to gather together and celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday (November 28). If you haven’t already, this would be a good time to start listing all the things you have to be thankful for. Write them down and post the list where you can see it. We so easily forget our blessings; it helps to have a reminder. If you have trouble getting started, take a cue from the song and be thankful for the fact that “He forgets not His own.”
Whatever your plans may be this holiday season, we ask the Lord’s blessing on you and yours…and look forward to the next time we can gather together with you.
Keep your roots deep in him and have your lives built on him. Be strong in the faith, just as you were taught, and always be thankful.—Colossians 2:7
Let the peace that Christ gives control your thinking, because you were all called together in one body to have peace. Always be thankful. —Colossians 3:15
So let us be thankful, because we have a kingdom that cannot be shaken.—Hebrews 12:28
