What is Christmas really about?

With all the anticipation of Christmas morning, I wonder about the day when Jesus was born, when the Angel appeared to the shepherds delivering the GOOD NEWS, that yes, it was time!  The gift that they'd been promised was finally here!  A savior was given.  It wasn't a perfect setting, and I'm sure it wasn't the way Mary or Joseph had planned his birth, and He was perfect.  The shepherds came, and then like the angels had told them, they went and shared the good news!  When I think about the greatest gift we could ever be given, a Savior for all of us.  We should not only be running down the stairs to rip open our presents, we are to be sharing the good news of the perfect Christmas gift, Emmanuel!

None of us could have anticipated what this year would look like as we made our New Year’s resolutions and looked forward to our “2020 vision”!  Many of us are averse to change.  We don’t necessarily want to stay where we’re at, and we also don’t want to move into the unknown.  This year, we’ve been pushed into change.  Our lifestyle has changed, who we spend our time with and where we spend our time. Almost none of these changes are things we would have chosen for ourselves.

What is Christmas really about? That’s what Cindy Lou wanted to know in The Grinch.  Many would answer; it’s about spending time with family and all our traditions and this year will look a little different.  No big Holiday parties or large family gatherings. So, what’s left of Christmas?

My Sweet Holiday is a story about a couple ready to retire. They sold their chocolate shop and are about to start the next chapter of their lives. The only thing left is to tell their daughter, Sadie, who works at an LA advertising agency. Her dad hoped to pass the family business along to her one day, but she’s lost interest. When she returns home for Christmas, they break the news to her Not only shocked, but she’s also disappointed; how could they do this to HER? Sadie isn’t ready to give up the chocolate store and her childhood dreams!

Like Sadie, we’ve had to give up so much this year, and this Christmas will look different for many of us, but this remains the same, Christmas is about HOPE! Christmas is about the baby that was given to us to bring HOPE to the world! That will remain the same, no matter how our circumstances change. As you find a new way of celebrating this year, I wish you hope and peace.

Merry Christmas, and  I hope you enjoy watching, My Sweet Holiday premiering Christmas evening on Lifetime @ 8/7pm.
