Why We Struggle to Forgive Others

Are you ready for something that has blown my mind? This has absolutely transformed my understanding of the renewal of the mind, and I pray that it does the same for you!

For years, I knew all the right scriptures about forgiveness, understood intellectually that I was supposed to forgive, and could even quote the verses about forgiveness.

But deep down, something was still missing.

The breakthrough came when I truly grasped what it means to renew our minds completely.

Think of your mind like an apple. The peel represents that surface-level, intellectual understanding of forgiveness. The flesh represents the act of starting to live it out.

We need to go deeper, though, all the way to the core, to the seed.

In Ephesians 4:23 NKJV, Paul urges us “…to be renewed in the spirit of your mind.”

The spirit of your mind, in the analogy, is the seed of the apple.

When we take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ, as 2 Corinthians 10:5 teaches us, we're not just changing our surface thoughts. We're allowing God to transform the very core, the seed, of how we think. Proverbs 23:7 reminds us that as we think in our hearts, so we are. This is why complete forgiveness requires complete renewal of our minds.

Here's what I discovered: when forgiveness reaches the seed level of our thinking, it produces beautiful fruit. Every seed bears fruit, either good fruit or bad fruit.  When we have renewed our minds, the spirit of our minds, then the beautiful fruit of a completely renewed mind blooms!

A renewed mind brings freedom for ourselves, and it blesses those around us. When a renewed mind brings true forgiveness, we stop warring against flesh and blood and recognize our real enemy. We close the doors that give Satan access to our thoughts and emotions.

When our minds are truly renewed in the spirit, we can discern God's good, pleasing, and perfect will. God promises this satisfying result in Romans 2:12, but it only comes after we resist the patterns of the world and let God transform our thinking. This allows us to share the fruitful result of renewing our minds at the seed level.

I encourage you to watch the entire episode, “Why We Struggle to Forgive Others,” on The Alita Reynolds Show and explore this life-changing truth for yourself.

Your freedom is worth fighting for!

I'm wildly cheering you!
