1 JOHN: So We Can Know

1 JOHN: So We Can Know

First John contains a tiny verse that assures us of our salvation in Jesus Christ.  Don’t miss it in 1 John 5:13: “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”

That settles is for all of us. The verse doesn’t say in order that we may “feel” or “think” or “hope;” it says clearly that we can know we have eternal life. What a great gift of God that He would want us to know, without a doubt, we will go to heaven when we die!

We are His, and when we die, we’ll be with Him forever. We know this, in part, because of John’s writing in this book.

The Search for Who I Am?

There is one question that I believe at some level each one of us is attempting to answer with all of the things that we do in our life. This question shows up in our workplace, in our parenting, in our friendships, and in our marriages! The question is, “who am I?!”

The lack of identity is an epidemic of our culture today! I believe that a high percentage of people are aimlessly walking into situations, relationships, events and careers without having any understanding or idea of who they are. All of this creates devastation in peoples lives on a daily basis.

This is all a part of the enemy’s plan! The enemy is known as the father of lies in the Bible, so he loves nothing more than to lie to us. And also to get us to lie to ourselves! If he can get us to lie to ourselves and believe the lies that he tells us ultimately he knows that we will get off track with our life that God has intended for us.

“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry...

Love Radically

FOCUS: Words to Prepare Your Mind

“God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

“When we know that we are loved by God, loved beyond measure, we can dive in and take a chance.” – Sheila Walsh, Imagine Devotional Journal

PUSH: Words to Influence Your Spirit
Would you consider your love for Jesus to be ‘radical love’?

Whether you feel that your love for Jesus is radical or not, know this: Jesus is radically in love with you.

Let me tell you what radical love means. It is having an all-consuming, passionate love for God—the kind of love God has for you. Do you want this radical kind of love in your life? If you do, let me tell you how to get it.

First and foremost, if you don’t have it, you have to confess that fact. Secondly, cry out to God for it in your life. And lastly, don’t give up until you get it!

HABAKKUK: A Promise We Can Claim

habakkukIf we could hear God’s voice audibly, if He were to say something personally to us, it would be wonderful to hear Him say what Habakkuk heard: “Look among the nations and watch – be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you” (Habakkuk 1:5).

All our lives we’ve been in trouble – nations rising against nations; wars and rumors of wars; people speaking of peace where there is no peace. That also describes the days of Habakkuk. God made a promise to him that we can claim as our own . . . just like we’d heard it audibly. It’s that real.

ZECHARIAH: Words to Remember

ZECHARIAH: Words to Remember

God’s people faced a daunting task . . . rebuilding the temple.  Their resources were limited, and their motivation waned.  We can relate, as we’ve faced challenges that seem impossible.  Such was the challenge of the Israelites.  They looked forward to the coming of the Messiah and had an earnest desire to be ready.  The job however, was too difficult.

God gave Zechariah perfect words to motivate them, and in those same words we find hope for today: “This is the word of the Lord: . . . ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD of hosts” (Zech. 4:6).

There is nothing we face, nor imagine ever facing, for which these words of the Lord do not apply.  They are ours to remember every day, no matter what.

Invitation to Story Workshop

Hey there!  I’m Alita Reynolds, Foundational Voice with Women of Faith.

Let’s talk today about our Be the Light Event, September 6-7, 2019 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

First of all, I would love for you to register!

Second of all, I want to talk about our Story Workshop, Friday from 9 am - 3 pm.

I am absolutely passionate about this Story Workshop because I know everyone has a powerful story.  We want to help you compose your story in such a compelling way.

We know that sharing your story lets others know they are not alone. I am sure you have experienced it too. When somebody says... “This has happened to me too”! People relate more to your failures than your successes.

Why not learn how to share that in such a powerful way to bring them to Christ.

May the story about me... always point to Jesus.

THREE TYPES OF ATTENDEES
There are three types of attendees for the Story Workshop.

Discouragement

“My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be.” Psalm 42

I remember sitting in my daddy’s lap while we watched Bo and Luke Duke outfox Boss Hogg on The Dukes of Hazard. Yee-haw! I recall my parents moving me into the dorm and saying to my mom, “Well, you aren’t just going to just leave me here, are you?” Yes. I think that was the general idea. I remember the first time I talked to my husband on the phone while sitting on my parents’ bed, twirling the phone cord in my fingers. And I can still hear my babies’ first cries and think back upon weeping as I held their tiny bodies. I recollect times when I felt so close to Jesus that I was literally surrounded by Him.

Warm, fuzzy memories are great. They usually bring a smile to our face and a little pep to our step. But oddly enough, there are times when remembering the good ol’ days can also break our hearts. Can you relate to this part of Psalm 42: “My heart is breaking...

Amy Grant shares on her family, future and Women of Faith

Grammy-winning Christian pop singer-songwriter Amy Grant performs twice in the Charlotte area this weekend: The youthful 51-year-old will join fellow gospel artists Sandi Patty and Mandisa, plus other Christian authors and speakers, Friday at the Women of Faith Conference at Time Warner Cable Arena. She’ll also headline at Wingate University’s Austin Auditorium Saturday.

Grant says the Women of Faith show came at the right time for her.

“My mother passed away last year, and she was such a consistent voice in my life,” she says. “During the time right around her death, I was involved with Women of Faith on the West Coast and then this year working closer to home on the East Coast. It has been truly a godsend.”
